Drew this in the garden outside my window, tended by my lovely downstairs neighbour who lives just beside it. Took me about 4 hours of straight drawing. I find that when I sit down to draw, I can go for hours without standing up, or needing to use the toilet, or drinking, or eating. I just draw. I told a ladyfriend and fellow teacher once that observational drawing...and painting...is a very Buddhist exercise in that, when focussing on the subject, one empties out oneself in an attempt to absorb, process, and restate the subject as truthfully as possible into the artistic medium.

I love the idea of drawing as a meditative practice. It’s fascinating how creativity can help us tune out distractions and focus deeply. https://appel.lol/games/desert-appel
